About the museum
The Galerie Ludvíka Kuby Poděbrady, abbreviated GALK, is a multifunctional space focused on contemporary and modern art. The exhibition hall lies in the middle of the spa promenade, next to the Art Nouveau Viola café and the Chariclea hotel, and is housed in the Colonnade of Friendship and Art, built in the 1980s of the 20th century.
The gallery’s programme continues the tradition of spa exhibitions, which have been held in various spa buildings since the Poděbrady spa was founded in 1908. Earlier exhibitions in the spa included solo shows by Ludvík Kuba (1917, 1988, 1993), exhibitions by Emil Filla and Rudolf Kremlička, by sculptor Ladislav Janouch and by Václav Radimský, among others.
The gallery is named after Ludvík Kuba (1863–1956), a native of Poděbrady who lived, studied and held several solo exhibitions in the town. In recent years exhibitors have included Josef Liesler, Pasta Oner, Adam Kašpar, Ivana Štenclová and Tři Lamři. The gallery stages exhibitions and guided tours with the artists, and rents out its premises.
