About the museum
The Local History Museum in Nymburk is one of the workplaces of the Polabí Museum. The building in Tyrš Street underwent a reconstruction lasting more than five years, carried out by the Polabí Museum together with the Central Bohemian Region. During the construction work extraordinarily valuable archaeological features were uncovered in the basement, and these became part of the new tour route.
The newly opened exhibition across two floors was created to mark the 750th anniversary of the founding of the royal town of Nymburk. It presents the nature of the Polabí, prehistory with rich archaeological finds, and above all the history of Nymburk from 1275 to the 20th century, often in little-known contexts.
Among the most interesting exhibits are furniture from the Baštec villa in Drahelice, high-wheel bicycles from the firm L. Kohout, 19th-century weapons, Renaissance painted ceilings, a guild chest from 1782 and the uniform of RAF pilot Josef Jaška. The large-format painting by Alfons Mucha from 1935 and the personal car of the writer Bohumil Hrabal, a Ford Escort, also hold an important place. The exhibition is complemented by illustrations by Lucie Seifertová.
