About the museum

The infantry blockhouse K-S 46 “V zátiší” was built on the then northern border of Czechoslovakia as part of a line of heavy fortifications. It belonged to the ŽSV III engineer group command in Králíky, to the sixth construction sub-section Adam. It is a double-sided, two-winged, two-storey structure built to resistance grade II, for which 1,524 m³ of reinforced concrete was used. Concreting took place without interruption in June 1937, and the work was carried out by the Prague firm Kapsa a Müller, which also built the neighbouring Adam fort.

By the Munich Agreement of 1938 the blockhouse had been completed in its construction and technical aspects: both armoured cupolas were installed, utility networks, the filtration room and the engine room were built. The object was to be equipped with the most modern weapons the republic had at its disposal, and its garrison was to consist of 34 men. After the occupation of the border region in 1938, German engineers removed both armoured cupolas and the embrasures for the main weapons, and later the firm Kovošrot removed everything made of iron from the object.

Today the blockhouse is looked after by the Military History Club “Zátiší”. A guided tour allows visitors to see the external and internal parts of the object, with partly reconstructed rooms, historical weapons, documents, uniforms and other period equipment. A cleaned anti-tank ditch is also located nearby.
