About the museum
The gallery grew out of the Zlín Salons, which the Baťa company held in 1936–1948. The collection was founded on the holdings formed at that time and gradually grew to include Czech and Slovak fine art and architecture from the 19th to the 21st century. The founder is the Zlín Region.
Since spring 2013 the gallery has been housed in the 14th building of the former Baťa factory complex, converted into the 14|15 Baťa Institute; it moved there from the Dům umění (House of Art) and from Zlín Chateau. The main permanent exhibition is on the second floor, while short-term exhibitions alternate on the first floor. The collections are particularly strong in Czech art of the 19th and 20th centuries, including works linked to the Mařák school, the Osma group, Skupina 42 and Surrealism.
The gallery runs the cycles Nový zlínský salon and Zlínský salon mladých, publishes the quarterly Prostor Zlín, operates a specialist library and offers educational programmes. In 2025 it opened an exhibition in the reconstructed Čiperova vila, which visitors can see separately or in combination with admission to the gallery.
