About the museum

Prague Loreto is a place of pilgrimage at Hradčany, cared for by the Capuchins since its foundation. The heart of the complex is the Santa Casa, a copy of the ‘Holy House’ from Nazareth, which is venerated in Loreto in Italy as the place of the Incarnation. The chapel stands freely in the courtyard, surrounded by a two-storey ambulatory with corner chapels, and is richly decorated with reliefs after Italian models. Beside it stands the Capuchin monastery with the Church of Our Lady of the Angels.

Visitors can see a significant part of the famous Loreto Treasury directly in the complex. Its centrepiece is the Diamond Monstrance, known as the Prague Sun, made at the end of the 17th century in Vienna and set with 6,222 diamonds. The pilgrimage Church of the Nativity is one of the best-preserved Rococo interiors in Prague, and its Baroque organ sounds at Saturday afternoon concerts. The tower with the unique Loreto carillon chimes every hour, and on holidays organists play sacred music on it.

In 2026 Loreto commemorates 400 years since its founding. The history of the site has been turbulent, but the Capuchins have continuously cared for the sanctuary and its pilgrims. During a guided tour, visitors can also enter a copy of the Loreto crypt with Baroque art of the good death (ars moriendi).
