About the museum
The Městská galerie in Týn nad Vltavou opened at the beginning of 1996. It was founded by the town together with the gallerist Marie Hanušová, who continued the activity of the private ART CLUB gallery. Until 2007 it was located in house no. 25 on Náměstí Míru, and from 2007 it has been in the house U Zlatého slunce.
A well-known cultural event were the Vltavotýnské výtvarné dvorky (Vltavotýn Art Courtyards), held from 1995 to 2015. From 2016 the gallery was run by Petra Svoboda Herotová, and together with the Městský dům dětí a mládeže she organised the Sympozium drobné grafiky (Small Graphics Symposium), which since 2019 has been called EXPO TÝN. She also introduced regular art workshops for children and the educational aid Vlasta. Since 2025 the gallery has been run by the curator Dominika Kunzová.
The gallery presents contemporary free and applied art in the form of short-term exhibitions. It specialises in fields linked to the book and text, for example illustration, graphic design, calligraphy, comics, free graphic art, artists' books and typography. It thus follows the local tradition of book production associated with the bookbinder Ladislav Hodný the Elder. There is no permanent exhibition here.
