About the museum
The Information Centre of the Temelín Nuclear Power Plant was founded by the company ČEZ in 1991. Its purpose was to inform residents about the power plant, nuclear energy and energy and physics in general. It is housed in the Renaissance château Vysoký Hrádek, which stands near the power plant on the site of the former village of Březí near Týn nad Vltavou.
In the two wings of the château there is an extensive explanatory exhibition. It shows how energy relates to everyday life, the principle of nuclear energy and the fuel cycle, and Temelín, its installations and operation. It includes models, interactive games and a cinema hall with a cloud chamber. A smaller part of the exhibition also recalls the history of the château itself.
Today the centre functions as the visitor centre Svět energie (World of Energy). The exhibition is not freely accessible: visitors register in advance for a guided tour. The tour is free of charge and does not include admission to the power plant premises. Interested visitors can also view a virtual version of the power plant, including the area by the nuclear reactor, using virtual reality glasses.
