About the museum
The museum is housed in the renovated building of the former Metánov school, where one room was set aside for it. It was officially opened on 19 May 2007 during a gathering of natives of Metánov, family members, cottage owners and village residents. Its creation involved the Osvětový spolek Jakuba Hrona (Jakub Hron Educational Society) and the municipality of Častrov; some of the exhibits were made by members of the society.
Jakub Hron Metánovský (1840–1921) was born in Metánov, studied mathematics and physics, and taught at the grammar school in Hradec Králové. He became famous for the buňát, a non-drip inkwell that he had patented and that also adorned the writing desk of Karel Čapek. He devised other inventions and Czech neologisms to replace foreign words, wrote about mathematics, physics and astronomy, and returned to his native village before his death.
The second part of the exhibition commemorates the academic painter František Sever, another native of Metánov. Visitors can sit on chairs that Hron designed himself.
