About the museum
The castle developed from a medieval fortified house of the 13th century. It was rebuilt in the mid-16th century, again in 1580–1583, and the gate with a tower was completed in 1744. The last private owners, the Geymüller family, had the castle remodelled in the Neoclassical style in 1839–1842.
After 1945 the castle served as a children's sanatorium, which was closed in 1998. From that year the building has been managed by the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague. Reconstruction took place in 1999–2004, and since 2004 the castle has been open to the public. During the restoration a Renaissance hall in the east wing and an extensive Gothic hall were uncovered.
Today visitors can see exhibitions focused on toys and design, such as the exhibition on the Schowanek wooden toy factory, which opened in July 2025.
