About the museum
The museum was founded in spring 2016 by a group of chocolate enthusiasts. Its exhibition tells the story of the Koukol a Michera chocolate factory in Kutná Hora, which was established in 1918. Under the Lidka brand, the factory exported chocolates and sweets to many countries around the world and, according to the museum, twice won a gold medal at a world competition in succession.
In 1948 the factory was nationalised, production was gradually reduced, and after 1958 the company ceased to exist. The Lidka brand continued to be used by other Czechoslovak companies, and Nestlé acquired the remains of the original factory. The founders, however, never handed over the original recipes to the communists.
In 2018, one hundred years after the factory was founded, the museum revived the production of Lidka chocolate in Kutná Hora. The chocolates are made by hand, from the cocoa bean to the bar, and win awards at international competitions. The museum includes a chocolate shop selling Czech chocolates and offering tastings. In the exhibition you can also smell the preserved original chocolates, the oldest of which are almost a hundred years old.
