About the museum
Signal box 15 “sever” was built in 1941 in what was then Bodenbach, today's Podmokly. It bears the marks of wartime construction, such as iron doors, metal-plated windows, reinforced concrete parts and an anti-splinter shelter in the operators' room. It was equipped with a four-row electrodynamic interlocking system from the German firm VES Berlin, then the most modern system of its kind. After 1945 the signal box with its original technology remained in use until the 1970s, when the mechanical signals were replaced by light signals during electrification.
During the reconstruction of Děčín station in 2001 to 2003, a new track layout was built, and in 2003 the electronic ESA 11 interlocking system began to be used. All equipment in the area of signal box 15 was moved to the new central signal box, and operation at the Sever signal box ended in September 2003. The building was ultimately not demolished but used for a museum exhibition of communication and interlocking technology run by the Centrum techniky a diagnostiky.
After structural adjustments and the construction of a spiral staircase to the building, exhibits, information panels and parts of the technology were installed. The exhibition opened in November 2005. Some exhibits, such as the single-row electrodynamic interlocking from Včelná station, are demonstrated in working order; another part presents the history of the railway and the railway junction of Děčín. The current operator is Správa železnic (Railway Infrastructure Administration).
