About the museum
The museum in Jemnice has existed since 1894. Today it is a branch of the Muzeum Vysočiny Třebíč, a contributory organisation. It is housed on náměstí Svobody in a townhouse that originally belonged to the Dusík family; stables and farm buildings from the late 19th and early 20th centuries have been preserved at the rear. The house stands in the protected heritage zone of the town.
Since 2026 the new permanent exhibition Život na pomezí has been open. It presents the history of the southernmost part of the Vysočina region, where Czech, German and Jewish cultures met. Among the most valuable exhibits is a unique stone maiden from the time when Jemnice was a royal town. A separate section is devoted to the historic Barchan festival, including a short film from 1928.
For children there is a play trail through the whole exhibition. The museum also offers programmes for schools and holds temporary exhibitions.
