About the museum

The Muzeum RAF in Polici was ceremonially opened on 17 June 2017 in the château. It commemorates the heroism, hardships and sacrifices of Czechoslovak airmen who, during the Second World War, could not fight the Nazis on home soil and went into the foreign resistance. After the fall of Poland and, shortly afterwards, France, most of them found refuge in Great Britain. In total, 2,507 Czechoslovak airmen served in the RAF; around 1,600 of them were flying personnel and about 500 of them died.

The Police château is first mentioned in 1358. In the 16th century it was rebuilt by the Tavík family of Tavíkovice; later it was owned by the Berchtold family of Uherčice, the Ségurs and the Wraždes of Kunvald. After 1945 it was confiscated, and since 1996 it has belonged to the municipality of Police; it has been open to the public since 2005.

Besides the Muzeum RAF, the château also houses the Muzeum Waldemara Matušky and a collection of historic motorcycles Jawa, ČZ and Ogar; tours of all routes are timed to fit together. The association Čeští RAFáci, which keeps alive the memory of Czechoslovak wartime airmen, supports the creation of the museum.
