About the museum

The museum is housed in a restored light pillbox of the Czechoslovak pre-war fortifications, type vz. 36 C, which belonged to sector XI Trmice. The pillbox was built in 1936 as part of the fortifications constructed between 1935 and 1938 against the threat from Germany. It had three embrasures and was armed with three machine guns, and its crew comprised six men.

The pillbox was meant to monitor traffic on the road from Ústí nad Labem to Trmice and to prevent any attempt to cross the Bílina River; its fire could also reach the chemical plant and the western railway station. It also protected a nearby artillery position.

The museum was founded in 2005 by members of the Klub vojenské historie Trmice (Trmice Military History Club). A period equipment, weapons and other memorabilia exhibition is installed in the small interior of the pillbox. According to the museum, it is the only working fortification museum in the Ústí nad Labem region. It is open only on a few visiting days a year and, for schools and groups, by arrangement.

Expozice dobové výstroje a výzbroje v objektu LO vz. 36 – Period equipment, weapons and other objects recalling the defence of the republic in 1935 to 1938 are on display in the small interior of the pillbox.

The pillbox stands in Hostovice above the motorway access road (Žižkova street), near the junction with Hostovická street; access is from Hostovická street. On foot it can be reached from the city centre along Žižkova street from the main and bus stations, and from the western station via the underpass beneath the tracks.
