About the museum
The Museum of Literature is housed in the villa of Marianne Gellertová-Petschková in the Prague district of Bubeneč, on Pelléova Street. It belongs to the Památník národního písemnictví (Museum of Czech Literature), which collects and presents collections devoted to Czech literature and book culture. The institution also includes the Literary Archive and a library, and the branches Hvězda Summer Palace and the Czech-French cultural centre Petrkov.
The permanent exhibition Rozečtený svět consists of ten thematic exhibitions created from the museum’s collections, which show literature of the 19th and 20th centuries. The exhibition has no single continuous storyline and asks what literature is and how it can be made visible. An online catalogue of the permanent exhibition is also available.
The museum holds further exhibitions, programmes and workshops for children and adults, and offers guided tours for schools and groups. The building has a café with a reading room and an e-shop with publications. For families with the youngest visitors, the guide S Knihomolem muzeem literatury is available for download.
