About the museum
Římov is an important South Bohemian pilgrimage site, which in the first half of the 20th century drew as many as 50,000 pilgrims. The Muzeum poutnictví (Museum of Pilgrimage) was founded here in 2019 in the former parsonage and presents pilgrimage in an interactive form. It focuses on the history of the pilgrimage sites Římov, Dobrá Voda and Svatý Kámen.
The pilgrimage complex in Římov consists of the Church of the Holy Spirit, arcades with early Baroque paintings of the life of the Virgin Mary, a Loreto chapel and a Way of the Cross from the second half of the 17th century with 25 chapels. In 1628 the Eggenberg family gave the estate to the Jesuits from Český Krumlov, who administered the pilgrimage site until the order was abolished in 1773. Today the complex is cared for by the Kněžská fraternita svatého Petra (Fraternity of St Peter).
