Muzeum pražského vodárenství

The museum in the Podolí Water Works traces the history of Prague's water supply; it is closed for reconstruction and offers only guided walks around the site.

Temporarily closed
Temporarily closed (expected until 2027/2028). The museum has been closed since 1 October 2025 for building and exhibition reconstruction. Until it reopens, guided walks around the Podolí water treatment plant take place (Thursday afternoons and the second Saturday of the month).

About the museum

The museum is housed in the Podolí Water Works, a protected industrial building from 1925–1929 designed by the architect Antonín Engel. The works were renovated in the 1990s and still supply part of central Prague, including the Old Town and Josefov; they also serve as a backup water source. The site includes a tower with an observation gallery at a height of 40 metres.

The museum was founded in the early 1950s and in the second half of the 1990s moved from Národní třída to Podolí. The exhibition traces the development of Prague's water supply, from private waterworks in the 12th century to the present day.

Since 1 October 2025 the museum has been closed for building and exhibition reconstruction, and it is expected to reopen around the turn of 2027 and 2028. Until then the operator offers guided walks around the Podolí water treatment plant, focusing on the history of the water works and its architectural development.
