About the museum

The Rumburk Museum is a branch of the Regional Museum in Děčín, whose founder is the Ústí Region. The Děčín museum took over the Rumburk and Varnsdorf branch into its administration in the second half of the 1970s.

The museum is located near Lužické náměstí, in the building of the former Förster factory for dyeing fabrics and linen yarn. A comprehensive reconstruction of the museum took place in 2008 to 2012. The building today serves permanent exhibitions as well as short-term exhibitions.

The permanent exhibition Střípky z historie (Fragments of History) on the first floor presents the history of Rumburk and the important personalities of the region, for example the salon of the Stradal couple and the paintings of the painter August Frind. The natural-history exhibitions are devoted to the wetlands of the Velký rybník near Rybniště and to the geological past of the Šluknov Hook. Each year the museum also prepares a Christmas exhibition of nativity scenes and offers educational programmes for schools and groups.
