About the museum

The collection goes back to the Frey family in Seifhennersdorf. In 1956 Gudrun Frey bought her husband Heinz a few tracks, a freight locomotive and three express coaches, laying the foundation. Since the beginnings of model railways in the 1950s, model railway building has been done in public in Seifhennersdorf, and over time an extensive collection of models and original parts of full-size railways grew.

After several television features, including one on "Eisenbahn-Romantik", demand for viewings was so great that the family opened the collection: on June 9, 2001 the Eisenbahn-Museum Seifhennersdorf opened. It is run by the Seifhennersdorfer Eisenbahnfreunde e.V., which has more than 25 members.

The exhibition in the Umgebindehaus shows the history of model railways: tin trains with clockwork, steam or electric drive, the first model vehicles of the 1930s, the restart after 1945 and top models of today. Steam engines and matching drive models round off the collection; in addition there are self-built models of the Saxon narrow-gauge railway and a garden railway.
