About the museum

The first plans for a works museum date from 1964, on the initiative of Miroslav Boublík, director of the Třinec Ironworks. The museum was to show the development of iron metallurgy in the works and in the region and to support the production traditions of Třinec; the location was considered in seven buildings and finally settled in a converted tenement house from 1917 in the officials' colony. The ironworks has operated the museum since 1969.

On 1 January 1992 the ironworks concluded an agreement with the town hall on joint operation, and the Muzeum Třineckých železáren a města Třince (Museum of the Třinec Ironworks and the Town of Třinec) was created; the permanent exhibition was reworked to cover the company, the town and the region. Regular short-term exhibitions have been held since 1994, and in 1997 the museum staircase became the Galerie Na schodech (Staircase Gallery). After the reconstruction of the permanent exhibition in 2019, the museum has a permanent exhibition, three halls for short-term exhibitions, a gallery and the outdoor WERK gallery in the garden, which was opened on the occasion of the 180th anniversary of the ironworks.

The permanent exhibition has three parts: the history and beginnings of metallurgy (from the history of Cieszyn Silesia and the founding of the village to the oldest products of the foundry and enamelling works); the history of the works and the region (with projections of the milestones of the ironworks); and the present and the town (with a historical model of the town and an interactive quiz machine, kvízomat).
