About the museum

The Printing Museum in Cieszyn was founded in 1996 to commemorate the printing traditions of Cieszyn Silesia. The company Prodruk handed historic printing equipment over to the town, and in the following years the collections were supplemented with the equipment of a closed university typography workshop, a boiler for melting linotype alloy, a titler with a set of matrices, a line-casting machine and drawers of type. In 2003 the Association of the Printing Museum in Cieszyn was founded, and in 2004 a graphic workshop was opened.

Since 2010 the museum has been on the Route of Technical Monuments of the Silesian Voivodeship, and in 2014 it received the Silesian Juliusz Ligoń Award. In April 2019 it was closed for expansion and modernisation. After the renovation, in 2022, the management of the institution was included in the structure of Cieszyn Castle, which runs the facility jointly with the association.

The museum is housed in a renovated historic townhouse at ul. Głęboka, to which a new wing has been added. A visit resembles a visit to a 19th-century printing works, with fully working equipment preserved. Participants in the graphic workshops make linocuts, and in the bookbinding workshops they sew a notebook with their own hands.
