About the museum
The Muzeum včelařství v Louňovicích pod Blaníkem (Museum of Beekeeping in Louňovice pod Blaníkem) was founded in 2003 and recalls the long tradition of beekeeping in the Podblanicko region. It is housed in the listed cottage no. 86, which belongs to the early Baroque château complex in Louňovice; formerly it was home to a gardener.
The collection presents the tools and equipment used by local beekeepers. A large part of the exhibition consists of documents on beekeeping and specialist literature, including journals. The most valuable exhibits are two figurative hives, one from the 18th century and the other from the late 19th century.
From spring to September, the exhibition is complemented by an observation hive with live bees, where visitors learn about the life of the colony. The museum also offers guided tours with commentary for school groups, from pre-school age to secondary school.
