About the museum

Kovářka stands on the edge of the village of Moraveč, which belongs to the municipality of Slapsko in the Tábor region. The lookout tower was built by the local blacksmith Ladislav Dobeš on his own land. The idea first came up around 1999 as a plan for a miniature castle, but the preparations and obtaining permits took almost nine years. Construction began in May 2011, and the rough structure was finished in 36 days, by the end of July of the same year.

The thirteen-metre stone tower is a tribute to the blacksmith's craft. Inside, a steel spiral staircase of fifty steps leads up to a wooden covered viewing platform with windows. In good weather one can see from here, for example, Blaník, Mladá Vožice or the Mezivrata transmitter.

The tower and the small courtyard also serve as a blacksmith's museum. For many years the owner has collected journeymen's and apprenticeship certificates, old photographs of blacksmiths' forges in the area that no longer exist, and the tools and equipment of blacksmiths' workshops. He shows the collection to visitors in person and explains it.
