About the museum
The hexagonal neoclassical pavilion, known by its shape as Hříbek (Little Mushroom), was built between 1775 and 1800 in the castle park in Lukavec. The builder is not known. It served as a gazebo for rest and for storing fruit. In 1866 the family of the poet Antonín Sova (1864–1928) lived there for a time, and according to tradition Sova spent his honeymoon there with his wife Marie in the summer of 1901.
After 1948 the site was nationalised, and after 1989 it was bought by the Dřevozpracující družstvo Lukavec (Lukavec Woodworking Cooperative). The pavilion became an official memorial in 1958, when a delegation of poets and writers opened it on the thirtieth anniversary of the poet’s death. It underwent restoration in 2004. Today the exhibition is founded and run by the market town (městys) of Lukavec.
The current exhibition Antonín Sova, básník lásky a života (Antonín Sova, Poet of Love and Life) was ceremonially opened in May 2015 on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the poet’s birth. Its concept was prepared by the literary historian Jakub Raš in cooperation with the Městské muzeum Antonína Sovy v Pacově (Antonín Sova Municipal Museum in Pacov) and the National Gallery in Prague. The ground floor depicts the poet’s childhood and youth in Lukavec, Pelhřimov and Písek and his returns to his native region. On the upper floor visitors learn about the story of his great love and the verses in which he captured it.
