About the museum

The log house Běliště, built in 1807, is the largest log building in Železný Brod. From the 1960s its use to present ethnographic collections was considered, and in the second half of the 1990s a major reconstruction took place. The premises of the original main museum building were then released for glass collections, and after decades the museum became the Městské muzeum (Town Museum) again.

Nine rooms present the geology of the Železný Brod area, archaeological finds from the Návarov castle, guild relics, an old school classroom, a shoemaker's corner and a reconstructed bakery workshop with gingerbread moulds. A rural cottage shows an everyday interior, painted furniture and festive costume; in the attic there are cupboard nativity scenes and models of the burgher houses that once stood on the square.

A popular attraction is a working barrel organ (flašinet) with nine melodies. The building is a branch of the Městské muzeum v Železném Brodě (Town Museum in Železný Brod).
