About the museum
The Oblastní muzeum Praha-východ was founded in 1911. Its first real exhibition was created in 1937–1938, when the museum moved into borrowed premises in the château in Brandýs. In 1975 it took over the Arnoldinovský dům on the square in Brandýs, and after more than a decade of reconstruction it opened the exhibition Brandýsko v proměnách času (The Brandýs Region through the Changing Times) there in 1989. The exhibition was later reshaped into its present form.
The permanent exhibition in the Arnoldinovský dům presents the Brandýs region in a mosaic-like way. It includes a natural science part on geology, fauna and flora; an archaeological part on the earliest settlement, treasures and important research; an ethnographic part on crafts; and a historical part on Stará Boleslav, Saint Wenceslas and the Palladium of the Land of Bohemia.
The museum runs two short-term exhibitions at the same time and manages further branches: the Brandýská katovna (Brandýs Gallows House), the Josef Lada Memorial in Hrusice and the Memorial of National Oppression and Resistance in Panenské Břežany. It also provides materials to schools and researchers.
