About the museum
The U Fleků house has been linked with brewing beer since the late 15th century. The first written mention of the business dates from 1499, when the maltster Vít Skřemenec bought the house. According to the operator, beer has been brewed here without interruption for more than five hundred years. After nationalisation under communism, the brewery was returned in 1991 to its original owners, the Brtník family.
The brewery museum was set up in the former malt house building for the brewery’s 500th anniversary. The exhibition was created in 1999 and fits into the historic setting of the site. It shows brewing machines, tools and vessels, and describes the early history of beer production in Prague.
The most interesting part is the Renaissance room, where malt was dried using hot smoke from burning wood. The museum is run by the company Pivovar a restaurace U Fleků s.r.o. and can only be visited on a pre-booked tour.
