About the museum
Retro Computer is a permanent exhibition of historical computing technology from Czechoslovakia and from around the world, housed in the premises of the restaurant U Zlatého beránka in Žatec. The entire collection comes from the private collection of Pavel Jambor (OnlySoft.cz) and was made available for this exhibition.
About 160 fully working computers and other devices are on display in the limited space, from well-known home computers to very rare machines. The collection includes, for example, the American HP 250, the Datapoint 1560 Processor, the Soviet computers Vostok 48 and Agat, the analogue computer Aritma MEDA 41 TC, or the Czechoslovak machines FK-1 and the TNS from Slušovice. The online database RetroComputer.cz now lists more than 320 working machines, with photographs and descriptions in Czech and English.
The exhibition is aimed at the general public, families and schools. Most of the computers work, and at several prepared stations visitors can try out games from the 1980s on the original hardware. The same premises also house the experience attraction Jedová chýše, that is, horror medieval cellars beneath the restaurant.
