About the museum

The museum was founded and is run by the Nadace pozemního vojska AČR (Land Forces Foundation of the Army of the Czech Republic). The foundation took over the keys to the grounds of the former barracks of a rocket regiment on the edge of Rokycany on 11 November 1997, and the museum opened to the public on 1 May 1998 with its first exhibits.

The collection comprises about 190 pieces of military equipment from 1918 to the present, most of which are mobile. The most valuable items include the staff car Škoda 903 Superb, the gendarmerie coach Walter and a replica of the armoured car Tatra vz. 30. From the Second World War the museum displays, for example, the Willys MB, the GAZ 67 and a T-34 tank, and since 2017 also a working replica of the German Panther tank. Some of the equipment has appeared in Czech films and series.

Besides the outdoor exhibition, the museum offers an indoor exhibition on Czechoslovakia in the years 1930 to 1945. Newer parts include the exhibition “Nikdo nemá právo zapomenout!” (Nobody has the right to forget!) from 2010, the exhibition of Jiří Tolar Potůček from 2015, and the exhibition Útočná vozba from 2017.
