About the museum
The museum’s first exhibition opened to the public on 6 September 1997 as a permanent display of exhibits belonging to two private owners. After a successful first season, the Klub Železničního muzea Zlonice (Zlonice Railway Museum Club) was founded at the end of 1998; it coordinates the expansion of the collection and the activities of its members.
Since 2007 the club has been restoring the former rural manor house, which it has rented on a long-term basis. It was built by the founder of the Klobuky sugar factory, Kašpar Vopršal, and was later owned by his son-in-law, Prime Minister Jan Malypetr. From 24 April 2010 the club has regularly operated public exhibitions and an industrial narrow-gauge line there. The site lies in Lisovice, in the western part of the market town of Zlonice.
The collection contains around 200 exhibits and sets. Among its greatest rarities are six sugar-factory locomotives from 1912 to 1955. There is also an extensive display of signalling equipment, freight wagons, a model railway, veteran freight lorries and small historical technical objects.
