About the museum
Země Keltů (Land of the Celts) is a project of the Boii association, which commemorates the Celtic settlement in Nasavrky and the surrounding Železné hory. Its centre is a Celtic open-air museum on the edge of the town towards Kameničky. A reconstruction of a Celtic oppidum – a prehistoric fortified town from around the 1st century BC – is being built there. The design of the buildings is based on archaeological findings: the entrance gate with its stone fortifications is modelled on the nearby oppidum at České Lhotice, and the houses correspond to the find situations in Bohemia.
Volunteers contribute significantly to the construction, and some of the structures are being built experimentally. The authors themselves point out that the present appearance of the town is only one of several possible interpretations. Goats and sheep live in the open-air museum all year round; visitors can try out craft and working activities, borrow labelled equipment for historical, sports and game activities, or take a guided tour. Since 2021 visitors have also been able to use the Hostinec U Dubového Kelta.
Země Keltů also includes the exhibition Po stopách Keltů on the first floor of the Nasavrky château, open since 2004, and an educational trail that links the open-air museum with the oppidum at České Lhotice and the Boika lookout tower. During the year festivals such as Lughnasad, Samhain or Sabat Fest take place at the open-air museum, as well as programmes for schools and coach groups.
