About the museum

The Bloustrød Teglværk brickworks began operating in 1873 and around 1920 to 1930 was among the largest brickworks in Northern Europe. The clay was brought by tipper wagon trains from pits north of the works, where Allerød Sø lies today; as the deposits dwindled, the tramway was extended to the south and later to the west through Ravnsholt Skov. Around 1950 motor locomotives replaced the steam locomotives, around 1966 trucks took over the transport, and in 1982 the last bricks were fired.

Since 1981 volunteers have operated a museum railway here with a gauge of 700 mm. It is one of nine departments of the Dansk Jernbane-Klub and the only one that works exclusively with narrow-gauge equipment. Preserved are the pottery with three kilns, the carpentry shop, and the small engine shed and the large two-track shed, which again serve their original purpose. The last drying barn, which served as a carriage shed, burned down in 1992; the cars destroyed in the fire were reconstructed.

The roughly 1.2-kilometer line connects the stops Blovstrød H at Blovstrødhallen, Storkevad, Teglværket, and Oskar Jensens Bro at Allerød Sø. The rolling stock includes two steam locomotives from the sugar beet railways on Lolland, motor locomotives from various brickworks and from the Danish waterways authority, replica beet wagons used as passenger cars, and a mail car of the former Bornholm railways of 1911, which now serves as a kiosk.
