Bornholms Jernbanemuseum
Small railway museum at the harbor in Nexø on the history of Bornholm's narrow-gauge railways, 1900–1968, with the last surviving DBJ car.
About the museum
From 1900 to 1968, narrow-gauge trains ran on Bornholm. The Rønne–Nexø line served mainly everyday passenger and freight traffic, the Rønne–Allinge line was geared largely toward vacationers, and the line to Gudhjem was the last to be added. In 1935 the companies were merged under the name De Bornholmske Jernbaner (DBJ).
The museum was founded in 1999 as a joint project of the Nexø Museum and the association Foreningen De Bornholmske Jernbaner. It is housed in a large wooden hall at the harbor where the Nexø Både boatyard used to work. The exhibition "Toget og Havnen" was shown there at the opening.
Today the association runs the museum entirely with volunteers. The centerpiece is mail car DBJ No. 26, the only surviving car of the Bornholm railways. Also on display are a minister's car, freight and baggage cars, a small reconstructed station setting in the style of 1935, and numerous photos and original items from the railway era. In the long term, the association hopes to make a short stretch of the former line between Nexø and Rønne operable again.
