About the museum

The Dansk Støberimuseum, usually called Støberimuseet for short, tells the story of Morsø Jernstøberi. In 1853, the young bookkeeper N. A. Christensen founded a small iron foundry in Nykøbing together with his friend Wilhelm Bonne. Christensen soon ran the business alone; tiled stoves, ranges, window frames, pots, and irons from Mors found their way all over Denmark, and around 1900 about 250 people worked in the factory.

In 1886, K. E. Messerschmidt took over management. The striking factory buildings, which now house the museum and the city library, were built in 1913 and 1944. After difficult war years, the company modernized its production in the 1950s and had well-known designers create kitchenware, such as the Copco series. Later, wood stoves became the core business again. In 1993 the foundry left the town center.

In one of the surviving factory buildings, Museum Mors has since shown the company and workers' history, along with an extensive collection of cast products, on two floors and just under 1,500 square meters.
