About the museum

Over some three decades, the Støtteforeningen for Jernbanemuseet i Struer, an association with about 140 members, has collected and restored vehicles, equipment, photos, and archival materials on the railway history of central and western Jutland – in cooperation with Struer Municipality and the Struer Museum. In October 2015, the museum was inaugurated in the former DSB freight depot on the railway grounds in Struer.

In the building, exhibits include rail bicycles, luggage carts, signaling technology, signs, and tools; a station office and a post office have also been set up. Outdoors stand locomotives and carriages, including a sleeping car, a mail car, and a service car, which you can also look at from the inside. The showpiece is the diesel locomotive MX 1035, which stood as a monument on Havne Allé from 1992 to 2014 and came to the museum after an exterior restoration.

The rolling stock also includes the shunting locomotives MT 163 and MH 302, an Ardelt crane, the locomotive VLTJ 5, a Köf of the Deutsche Bundesbahn, as well as freight cars and draisines. The association has also rented the Struer command post from Banedanmark; depending on staffing, visitors can often take a look inside.
