Samsø Tekniske Museum
Volunteer-run technology museum in the old folk high school of Kolby on Samsø with vintage cars, tractors, motorcycles, and a large photo collection.
About the museum
The museum arose from the end of the Samsø Austin Museum: when its owner had to close and the collection was auctioned off in 2016, Hans H. Sørensen and Finn Campen acquired 29 of the 54 vehicles in order to keep them on the island. In 2017 this became the Samsø Tekniske Museum, initially as an independent institution chaired by Allan Laxby, and the exhibition initially continued in the previous premises in Torup.
To gain more space, the museum moved in 2022 to the former folk high school in Kolby in the south of the island. There the collection was significantly expanded. The museum is now run by an association, and in daily operations volunteers take care of running it and welcoming guests.
Besides the Austin cars, the museum now shows motorcycles, tractors, boat engines, radio and telephone technology, sewing machines, and many other everyday devices. Special features include a furnished car workshop from the 1950s and 1960s and, according to the museum, the largest photo collection in the country.
