About the museum

Sønderjyllands Radiomuseum goes back to the initiative of the engineer O. B. Carlsen. When the Sønderborg radio dealer Stig Kofoed-Nielsen, known as Stikoni, had to close his shop in the spring of 2008 for health reasons, he agreed with Carlsen that the entire inventory should go to a museum. The association Sønderjyllands Radiomuseum was founded on November 27, 2007; shortly thereafter, the vocational training center EUC Syd offered rooms in the former Håndværkerskole on Søndre Landevej.

The shop at Jernbanegade 37 had been opened by Andreas Duus in 1952; after his death, Stikoni took it over on April 1, 1956, and ran it for more than five decades. In July 2008, association members cleared out the shop, office, and workshop. Apprentices from EUC Syd then rebuilt the rooms in the museum – including the crooked angles that had arisen when Jernbanegade was cut through to the Christian X.s Bro bridge in 1929. The museum opened on October 2, 2010.

Alongside the reconstructed shop, the exhibition shows radios, tape recorders, gramophones, and measuring instruments of different eras and manufacturers. A large part comes from the estate of a radio dealer in Tinglev, from whom the museum received about 400 devices; the instrument collection includes devices from Radiometer, Brüel & Kjær, and B&O, among others. The museum is run by volunteers of the association.
