About the museum
Ants Laikmaa (1866–1942) was the author of portraits and landscapes, especially pastel paintings. He began building his home at the Tammiku farmstead in 1917, and in 1932, after the closure of the Tallinn Art School, he moved to the vicinity of Taebla. The museum opened in 1960.
The main permanent exhibition of the house museum is the house itself, with the artist’s studio and living quarters. The estate’s landscape includes the park and the artist’s last resting place. The year 2026 is being marked as the Laikmaa year on the occasion of his 160th birthday.
