About the museum

The Miiamilla children’s museum is in Kadriorg, in the house at 21c Koidula street, built in 1936–1937 to designs by Alar Kotli and Villem Seidra as the main building of the Kadriorg Children’s Park. The children’s park, established by the Government Parks Administration, was an innovative leisure centre of its time, where children could do sport, sing and learn about nature and the history of their homeland under the guidance of instructors. In Soviet times the building was used by a sports school.

The building was taken under heritage protection in 2003 and renovated in 2007–2009. A branch of the Tallinn City Museum opened here on 25 September 2009 under the name Muuseum Miia-Milla-Manda; from 2014 it was called the Kadriorg Children’s Museum Miiamilla, and from 2019 the Children’s Museum Miiamilla.

The permanent exhibition “Laste maailmaruumid” (Children’s Spaces of the World), opened on 11 January 2024, consists of thematic rooms that support coping with emotions, empathy, creativity and free play; the exhibition can be touched and played with. In the museum yard there is a mini garden and the outdoor exhibition “Roheliste näppudega lapsed” (Children with Green Fingers), which is open round the clock and free of charge. The museum also holds museum lessons, workshops, children’s camps and birthday parties.
