About the museum
The Lihula Muuseum (Lihula Museum) is located in the main building of Lihula manor, built by the Wistinghausen family in 1840. The museum has three permanent exhibitions. One gives an overview of the history of Lihula and South Läänemaa, including archaeological finds from Lihula castle; another presents local folk-culture objects, for example folk costumes, flower-embroidered carpets, sleighs and tools; the newest deals with the Baltic Germans and the loss of their homeland during the Second World War.
The museum belongs to the museums of Lääneranna rural municipality and is located in the area of Matsalu National Park. The collections of the Hanila museum are also kept in the same house, and researchers can view them by arrangement. The manor hall and a classroom can be rented.
