About the museum
Murru Prison operated from 1938 to 2012 and was closed in 2012. Today it is open as a prison museum on the grounds of the Rummu quarry, where the past meets the buildings standing under water.
Visitors can walk through the interior of the prison, the cells, punishment areas, work and auxiliary rooms, and the surrounding landscape. The tour with the audio guide lasts about two hours and includes almost 20 stops, where visitors hear the stories of former prisoners. On the guided tour, former prison officers talk about prison life in the 1990s. The grounds can also be explored independently.
