About the museum
Before 1994 the Obinitsa library was in the present museum building. In August 1994 an exhibition of sacred headscarves was held in the vacated building, as part of the First Days of the Kingdom of the Setos, and this gave the impetus for creating a small local history museum; the idea was supported by Lidia Sillaots. The museum room was consecrated on 3 June 1995. Since 2019 the museum has belonged to the Setomaa Museums.
As of 2012 the collection contained nearly 2,000 exhibits, mostly from the period 1910–1940: household farm objects (bed linen, towels, sacred headscarves, tablecloths, kitchen utensils, tools, furniture) and Seto national costumes, including hame (skirts), sukmanid (stockings), räbikud (sleeves), belts, kaatsad (shawls), aprons, fur coats, boots and felt. Next to the museum building stands a tsässon, a small village chapel, which can be entered.
