About the museum
The house was built in 1933 for the writers Marie Under and Artur Adson. After they left Estonia during the Second World War, the writer Friedebert Tuglas and his wife Elo Tuglas moved into the house. The museum was founded on 28 September 1971 as the house museum of Friedebert Tuglas and opened to visitors in 1976.
Today the museum presents Estonian literary history and the life and work of two writer couples. Its collections include Tuglas’s library, photographs, manuscripts and works of art, the legacy of Under and Adson, the USA art collection of the Eesti Kultuurifond (Estonian Cultural Fund), and the cultural-historical collection of Paul Reets. The house is surrounded by a garden.
