About the museum
The story of Arabia began in 1873 at Hämeentie 135, where the ceramics factory founded by Rörstrand developed within a few decades into one of the cornerstones of Finnish design. Today the Arabia135 creative quarter operates on the factory site, and the history of Arabia is visible in the quarter's buildings and ceramic artworks, including Michael Schilkin's reliefs on the façade and at the old factory entrance.
The renewed Arabian museo opened to the public on 9 May 2025 on the ground floor of the Arabia135 quarter, next to the Iittala shop. The museum has been moved to street level, where it is easily reached during museum opening hours.
The museum tells of Arabia's development from the perspectives of the ceramics industry, design and ceramic art. Display cases present the raw materials of ceramics and the techniques of manufacture and decoration, and a timeline of Arabia's history runs along the walls. Works by former artists of the Arabia art department are also on display. The Arabian taideosastoyhdistys (Arabia Art Department Association), which continues the heritage of the art department, organises small-scale exhibitions in the museum.
