About the museum
The exhibition Lähimmäisenrakkaus (Love Thy Neighbour), which tells the history of the Diakonissalaitos, is on display in the lobby of the foundation's main building at Alppikatu 2 (A building) in Helsinki. The exhibition presents the stages and activities of the Diakonissalaitos since 1867.
The exhibition includes, among other things, the oldest objects of the Diakonissalaitos, some items belonging to the founder Aurora Karamzin, and scale models of the deaconess sisters' dresses. From the space, visitors can also glance into the communion bread bakery. The exhibition texts are in Finnish, Swedish and English.
On the ground floor of the main building there is also the Kirkkokäytävä (Church Corridor), which hosts changing theme exhibitions. From April to September, Finnish-language history guided tours are held, which tell of the history of the Alppikatu block and of the figures and sisters of the Diakonissalaitos.
