About the museum
The Helsinki Civil Defence Museum operates at Siltavuorenranta in a wartime bomb shelter. The museum is maintained by the Helsinki Civil Defence Association, which has acted as a safeguard for Helsinki since 1941.
The exhibition tells of the general history of civil defence and of civil defence during the wars. Almost a third of the exhibition deals with wartime Helsinki in 1939–1944. The premises include a cellar shelter, where the sounds of bombing can be heard, and a lecture hall where visitors can watch videos about civil defence and everyday life during the war.
