About the museum
The Jokelan kotiseutumuseo is located in Ruotsinkylä in Loviisa, in the farmyard of the Jokela farm. The collection was assembled by the farm’s master, Erkki Jokela, and his family in the buildings of their family farm, and it is a private collection. As the collection grew, more space was added, and the museum now has three large exhibition halls. A significant part of the machines and objects has been donated since the 1990s.
The museum displays agricultural and forestry tools, machines and working methods from across the 20th century. The collection includes horse-drawn agricultural machines and dozens of tractors, the oldest of which date from the 1920s. Almost all the machines have been restored to working order. On display are also stationary engines, steam engines, ground engines, excavators, road graders, kiesi carriages and threshers, as well as tools used by forest workers and carpenters and hand tools for farming. The exhibitions also include objects and literature related to leisure time and home life.
On the last weekend of August the museum holds Vanhan ajan päivät (Days of the Old Times), when museum machines are shown in working demonstrations and in a tractor parade. The museum is part of the route of local heritage museums on the Länsi-Kymi Cultural Trail.
