About the museum
The Jyväskylä municipal engineering museum is located in the Könkkölä area on the shore of Lake Köhniöjärvi. The museum displays more than a thousand objects, devices and tools related to the building of the city of Jyväskylä: road construction, sewerage and other municipal works from different decades.
The exhibition includes, for example, the casing of an incendiary bomb dropped on Jyväskylä during the war, a Raket chainsaw, wooden piling machines and a Torno Kaiser concrete mixer. Visitors can also peek into a site office cabin and a shelter where the workers ate.
The collection is based mainly on material gathered and catalogued by local heritage councillor (kotiseutuneuvos) Taito Mörkki (1922–2005). The museum is looked after by the Central Finland Museum.
