About the museum

The Kovela manor tractor and farm machinery museum is located along main road 110, halfway between Helsinki and Turku, in Nummi. The land has been farmed since the 1500s. When dairy farming was given up in 1975, the cowshed was emptied, and a collection of machines and devices that eased the farm's work began to be assembled on its two floors.

The origins of the collection go back to the early 1970s, when the brothers Eero and Erkki Karhu decided to restore their father Yrjö Karhu's 1936 Ford. While looking for missing parts, they bought an old tractor and a farm engine, and collecting began. Hundreds of machines and devices related to the mechanisation of agriculture accumulated, and now they are on display on the two floors of the old cowshed and in the newer rear hall.

There are about 120 tractors, mainly from 1920–1955. The farm machinery museum includes horse-drawn vehicles, sledges and carts, more than 40 farm engines, more than 100 chainsaws, combine harvesters, threshing machines, a pärehöylä and five steam engines. The manor museum is housed in the present main building, which dates from 1924.
