About the museum
The Johannes Lohilammen museo is located on the Lohilampi family farm in Sammatti, an old rusthölli farm, or ratsutila (horse farm). The present main building was completed in 1778. The courtyard also includes a stilted granary (jalka-aitta), a syytinki and utility building, a grain storehouse, a grain granary and an old stone cowshed, which serves as the Taidenavetta (Art Cowshed).
Johannes Lohilampi (1866–1938) was a farmer and municipal figure from Sammatti who collected a wide collection of objects during his lifetime, mainly from Sammatti and western Uusimaa. The objects mainly date from the late 18th century to the early 20th century.
The museum is maintained by the Lohjan museo (Lohja Museum). It is open to the public in summer, and groups can visit by arrangement for a longer period. The Taidenavetta is rented for event and exhibition use.
